Preliminary Sketch for my Children’s Book

I am hardly good at drawing, but I am practicing heartfully believing I am the only one who truly knows my cats in the ways I do. This children’s book is about my cats Seamus and Hortense (pictured here is Hortense).

The petite, long-tailed and large-eyed Hortense is the classic prissy kitty, while rotund, tiny-tailed and siamese-eyed Seamus (her brother) is the cat who can act rather doggylike. Since children love adventure and the sense of accomplishment in figuring out a mystery, that is just what this book will be …

My babies have adventures everyday. They may not seem adventurous to us, but they are still adventures. In the morning, after feeding them … Hortense runs to my desk to watch the birds at the feeder. Tonight, she meowed expressively (and Seaus followed) at the falling snow. It is like one of those moments with children … like at thelibrary after storytime (I love those post-storytime moments so!) … “I NEED a stamp on my hand” …”Did you get your hair cut?” … all from the mouths of little ones. They know the score. Period. And we always need to listen with big, ready ears.

With this book, my hope is adventure for the children as well as feeding their inner-listen wiggles!
